Update

I'm so annoyed at myself for not updating in so long. The holidays got me lazy again. As a brief update, I've been very much enjoying Lucifer - it's deliciously funny, but also heart-felt. It's winning my award for most improved show! Agents of Shield's LMD storyline has been excellent - I'm so enjoying it!

Loved the last episode of Legends of Tomorrow (The Raiders of the Lost Art). So good and so, so funny. Forgotten how much I love Arthur Darville! Every joke was on point!

I'm crossing my fingers and toes that Timeless gets renewed.

Sherlock was a revelation! I loved it, even if I have one or two issues, I was completely riveted and the naysayers can suck an egg as far as I'm concerned. I've even branched out into the Sherlock fanfic world. Who knows where it might lead?!

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them!

Just saw this tonight at the cinema – I really enjoyed it! I was a bit meh about the big reveal at the end, though – couldn’t he have had a European accent?! That totally took me out of the moment, and I think it's bad casting, too. I haven't really enjoyed a Depp role in a long time and this one just doesn't seem right for him at all. Still, the rest of the movie was aces. I loved all the magical creatures, they were fantastically rendered, if you'll pardon the pun!  The costumes were brilliant, too – and I loved Queenie's hair. It's weird to see Harry Potter set in the US, though. Felt sort of out of sorts and misplaced, a little. Still, I'm really interested to see the next set of movies, so I guess it did it's job right!

Arrow, S05, E07
Vigilante
I had a few issues with this episode. It wasn't bad – not at all, really. I've seen much, much worse. But I can't believe how glibly they’re playing Oliver having a date with the reporter. I mean, come on! Not even a single reaction shot from Felicity?! No awkward silence when it's brought up by the team? They just make innuendos and jokes. WTF! I hate when a show tries to downplay it's own history. Or completely ignores it. They were engaged just last season! Give me something to work with here, writers! I'm still not enjoying most of the newbies. Least said about them the better, I suppose. I did like the flash back to Russia this episode, however, and the moments between Thea and Lance. That was sweet.

The Flash, S03, E06
Shade
I like the addition of Wally to Team Flash, and I think HR's working well, too – as is my lovely Draco Malfoy, although he didn't have much to do this episode (note to writers: please don't make him a baddie!!). Barry's Flashpoint shenanigans are still causing trouble fort eh team, thanks to Wally's Kid Flash visions, but is Caitlin a product of Flashpoint, or would she have always gained her Killer Frost powers. I think I, like many others, believe that it's possible that Vibe is the one on the wrong side of that future vision – it's future-knowledge 101, right? You always misinterpret what's being shown. The villain this week was total weak-sauce, so much so they didn't even bother giving him a reason for being the Shade. This issue was a lot of set up, but not much payoff, so I guess I'll have to see what becomes of it all in weeks to come.

Supergirl, S02, E06
Changing
Awww, what a sweet episode for sisterly love! I love how Alex's whole coming out was played – maybe the first interaction with Kara was a bit off the mark, but they more than made up with it in subsequent scenes. I felt so deeply for Alex. You could feel her confusion and pain, especially in that last scene. I like that Mon-El stood up to be a hero and I hope the team can get him back without him being brainwashed or something. I'm really getting miffed with James – I was SO PROUD of Winn standing up to him like he did. James was being a total pushy dick. This whole 'need to be a hero' storyline feels a little shoe-horned in for me, but I'm willing to see how it goes. The Winn/James team up could go some interesting places, so despite me side-eyeing Jimmy like mad I'm happy to hang-fire on judging it too harshly.

Supernatural, S12, E06
Celebrating the Life of Asa Fox
I loved this, give me more of hunters whispering the name Winchester in awe! It makes so much sense that other hunters would tell stories about the fabled Winchesters – think of everything they've done in the past 10 years. If even some of it is know, they look like alpha-hunters! I adored the first scene with the boys at Jodie's house. Sam looked so relaxed and at home all sprawled back in his seat! And Dean's child-like glee in killing Hitler was still funny. The hunter wake was fab, I loved the witch twins in particular and Mary's appearance. See, Arrow – this is how you keep emotional connection from one episode (and season) to the next. Bravo, show. I can totally see both sides of the Mary argument, though my heart sides with Dean. He's such a lost little boy where his mum is concerned, this must be eating him up. All in all this was a really good episode I'm really looking forward to visiting again.

Legend's of tomorrow, S02, E06
Outlaw Country
Another fun episode form Legends. Caity Lotz is never not amazing as Sarah – she's such a good Captain! I'm liking Ray more and more, and hopefully he can now get his suit back up and running. I'm guessing Martin's brain farts are to do with having a daughter introduced to the time line, cause there's no way he's not still totally in love with Clarissa. It was cool seeing the wild west again and I liked how it was filmed. Sepia camera lens, perhaps? A bit convenient to find all that rare alloy just sitting around, but I'll hand-wave it if Ray can get his suit back asap!

Lucifer S02, E08
Trip To Stabby Town!
Well, that was a total blast, wasn't it?! This show is really coming into it's own with every episode that goes by. It's such a huge step up from season one, like a totally different show. Kudos to Detective Douch as Most Improved Character - Dan is officially fabulous, and I never thought I'd say that. And it's not because he has a killer-bod! Bravo, show! I giggled-snorted through Ella and Lucifer's accidentally sexy-re-enactment in the yoga murder scene. That was comedy gold! How on Earth did they keep a straight face during that scene? Every time Lucifer interacts with is mother is brilliant, too. He totally got his inappropriate sex-sharing from her! Can't wait to see the Angel of Death - she'll make an appearance at some point, right? I have to say, it's very, very interesting that the devil seems to be the one celestial being at the moment who actually cares for humanity (in his own way).

Timeless S01, E06
The Watergate Tapes
You know, this show is my guilty pleasure for this season. I know it's kinda not that great, but I still find myself eagerly tuning in every week. I'm really enjoying the hell out of it! Which pretty much means it's a dead cert for cancellation. I'm pretty much doomed at this point for pilot shows. I like how all the secrets were aired this week, and there was forward momentum on Rittenhouse. Garcia finally felt like he had a purpose - and a personality. It's vital that baddies (or potential future allies, who knows) get their time in the spotlight. The seeds of a good show are there. I enjoy the weekly-time-jump shenanigans and I'm intrigues about the wider mythology. I really hope this show gets the chance to grow and develop... Argh, I still miss Forever. And limitless, though at least that show felt like they got a conclusion, at least. But it was the most fun and innovative show of last year, so of course it got cancelled! I really should know better by now. :-(

Conviction S01, E06
#Stay Woke
Speaking of new shows, Conviction is getting better - very, very (very) slowly. It's such a shame, because I ADORE Hayley Atwell and want her on my TV screen, but so far this show hasn't lit a fire under me. I watch, and I'm not bored or anything, but I'm not all that inspired to keep watching, either. It doesn't have the fun wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey shenanigans of Timeless, and the characters haven't managed to get me on side as yet. Still, it's early days. This episode wasn't too shabby, though it might be nice to get a case where the person in prison actually did it - though I'm sure that episode is coming. I'm somewhat intrigued that Hayley swings both ways, and she definitely had chemistry with the female lawyer/ex-girlfriend. But she's no Angie or Dotty, that's for sure! GOD, I miss Agent Carter like burning!

Monday Nov 14

So, here's some mini reviews for y'all...

Supernatural S12, E05

The One You've Been Waiting For
Well... that happened. I see where they were going with this - they were trying to create one of the more lighthearted, balls-to-the-wall episodes this show manages to pull off so often, but this one kinda missed the mark, by a country mile. It was actually embarrassing in parts, 'Hitler's resurrection scene in particular. I didn't hate it as much as my friend did, but it definitely missed the boat on what it was trying to achieve. I did like the (far too short) scene with Adam, and Dean's repetition of 'I killed Hitler' at the end swerved from embarrassing into genuinely funny. And I can't actually believe I'm going to say this, but I felt the fight scene went on too long - and I LOVE fight scenes. Still, next week is the rumored return of Jody Mills, so at least I have something to look forward to.

Legends of Tomorrow S02, E05
Compromised
I'm beginning to really enjoy Legends. Like most people, I love Sarah, and Mick Rory is quickly rising up the ranks to become my favourite character now that our beloved Captain Cold is no more (for now at least). I liked the double-Martin subplot, even if I was side-eying elder Martin's comments about his wife. Aren't you the one leaving her alone to play space-sheriff? I'm beginning to really like Haircut, too! Ray's burgeoning duo-dom with Mick is delightful. I wish Sarah hadn't pushed Dahrk off into the future, though - you just know something bad is going to come of this. But, my goodness, I ADORE Neal and this scenery chewing! That Miami Vice opening had me in tears! In fact, I laughed out loud several times during this eppy, usually at Mick's antics. Genuinely moved by his 'feelings' confession, too. Awww! Poor Mick! And good for them for giving old-dude Obsidian a male life-partner! Whoop!

Once Upon A Time S06, E08
I'll Be Your Mirror
Not a bad episode - not as good as last week, as there was a serious dearth of Emma/Hook interactions, though I did like Killian figuring out so quickly that something was up. Henry didn't grate on my nerves, like he so often does, so that's a bonus. I actually like the Zelena/Belle pair-up, I hope we get more of this. I'm SO over the Aladdin storyline already, show. I love the actress playing Jasmine (Galavant Forever!), but Aladdin is beyond annoying. Bleurgh! Emma and Regina was well done, I thought, and I enjoyed the mirror-world. How Henry could conveniently hear them when he couldn't before is a bit of an annoyance, but eh, I can hand-wave it. But seriously, do we need to see the Evil Queen and Rumple kissing again? GAG! My eyes are bleeding from that horrific scene. What was missing was a few more fun/embarrassing mirror scenes - the episode could have used with some funny interludes, and they could have thrown us a bone with a topless Killian scene and a leering Emma - would it have killed them?! I did think the Snow/Charming montages were very sweet, but not much forward momentum on their storyline, or on Emma's future death one, either.

The Walking Dead, S07, E04
Service
Well, what can I say about this special, extended episode. It was boring? I wanted to fast-forward it? I want Negan to shut the hell up? All of the above? Now, I really do like Jeffrey Dean Morgan - he's Papa Winchester, after all. But Negan's smirking face and looong monologues and 'witty' asides are really getting on my nerves. And what's with everyone giving Rick angry eyes? They all voted to take out Negan's crew, and nothing Rick said was wrong, really. Should they have perhaps done better recon before taking on a veritable army lead by a crazy dude? Sure, but he wasn't wrong that Negan's crew would have eventually come for them, and he wasn't wrong in this instance when he told everyone to keep their head down and not cause a ruckus. He's trying to keep them alive. Gold acting stars for Andrew Lincoln, he's nailing Rick at the moment. I may wish for badass Rick to start kicking ass and tearing out throats with his teeth, but there's no denying that Andy is giving it his all as broken-Rick. I liked the reminder of Shane, as well - blast from the past, and I was happy that he was brought up. Shows should remember their history, it gives their world depth. I really hope this season starts to pick it up a bit. I really wish we could spring forward to when our crew starts fighting back and winning - you know they have to eventually.

Ianto Jones/Jack Harkness

A time travelling, action-adventure, romance-filled science fiction romp ensues when Ianto runs into Jack in the fifty-first century after an accident with a vortex manipulator. More to come...

Arrow S05 E06

So, I'm thinking of doing mini-reviews after watching episodes - more thoughts and first impressions, really...

Arrow: So It Begins
I understand why Oliver wouldn't tell his new team all his deep, dark secrets - he barely knows these kids! Every week one or other of them screws up in some way - it was Evelyn's turn tonight, by turning off her earpiece and not alerting the others to Prometheus's presence.

Why should he have to bare his soul to these newbies, anyway? It took time for OTA to earn his trust, and rightly so. Sure, I can understand their side of it, having a mentor that holds stuff back and treats them like they're stuck at the kiddie table must suck, but darnit, I much  prefer Original Team Arrow. Begone, newbie team. Although rag mag can stay. He's a sweetie! Why couldn't they have brought back Roy?! My lovable little parkour-man!

Detective Lance is simultaneously breaking my heart and making me want the thwap him up the side of the head, Gibbs style. Listen to Thea, Quentin! There no way he's Promethus - I'm not even attempting to buy it, show, so don't start!

Still undecided about Felicity's new beau. I like that Felicity is back to her old self, but I miss her adorable, sweet moments with Ollie - those two belong together! Why can't shows let happy couples be happy? Urgh!

I'm enjoying the Russian Bratva storyline - much, much better than last year's B plot. Anatoly is a hoot, and I like seeing Oliver merge into his season one self before our eyes.

That's it from me!

I'm baaaack!

Yeah, I pretty much completely forgot about this journal. I promised myself I'd start to use it regularly, and totally let myself down. Again. Dammit! I really do want to get into the habit of posting, though. I spend my days writing for work, so I never feel the urge to write when I get home - I'm too busy reading fanfic or watching TV. But this year I'm gong to start my New Year's resolution a few months earlier - a blogger I shall be!

So, what's been holding my attention recently? Well, season 12 of Supernatural, I suppose. Can you believe our little show that could has reached 12 seasons?! Unbelievable! Sure, the road has been a rocky one, but I'm (we're?) still here, enjoying the ride. I still meet up with my bestie every Sunday to watch the newest episode, been doing it for years. I love a tradition!

I'm completely besotted with Marvel at the moment - my OTP of choice used to be Clint/Coulson, but now I'm all about Stucky! I like a fandom where I can explore it from many different avenues, like Supernatural or Harry Potter. Gives it longevity.

Visiting Florida this past September and actually walking down Diagon Alley was a complete dream come true for this Harry Potter fanatic! I can't explain how it felt to walk through the wall at King's Cross and see the wizarding world open up before me. It was surreal, in the best possible way. I wasn't quite as big a fan of their version of Hogsmeade, though. It was totally incongruous to see snow-topped buildings in the sweltering Florida sun. Pulled me right out of the illusion (although the frozen Butterbeer was rendered all the more special in the heat). I'd live there, if I could. Well, if it was cooler (like Scotland temp). And cheaper. Much, much cheaper!

Back Again!

I'm back to LiveJournal and I plan to use it properly this time! I need a place where I can be myself and geek out to my heart's content. Why are none of my real-life friends fans?! Makes life so much more difficult, like your speaking a different language and have to translate everything. And no one gets my jokes or references! Ah, well...
My mate and I were supposed to be going to Tae Kwon Do tonight, but we skipped in favour of the pub and cinema. We suck at being fit! Saw This Means War and it was SO FUNNY! Gotta love the sparkling blue, blue eyes of Chris Pine...
